Karingal Term 1 Return Camp
Our Scouts headed to Karingal for a Term 1 weekend camp, pulling together everything they'd learned through a disrupted 2020 — a big step back to a full programme.
Logan District Camp — Kookaburra Patrol Takes First
Our Kookaburra Patrol won first place in the survival race at District Camp — one of only two patrols there using traditional Queensland Patrol tents, which said a lot about their campcraft.
Karawatha Rogaine Navigation
Two rogaine-style navigation exercises at Karawatha Forest Park sharpened our Scouts' orienteering — teams hunting checkpoints across some properly varied bushland.
State Emergency Service Visit
A visit to the State Emergency Service gave our Scouts a first-hand look at community emergency operations, organised by the unit council as part of their community engagement programme.
Murphy's Creek Group Camp
Our Scouts took on the ropes course, archery, the giant swing, and the orienteering course at group camp at Murphy's Creek Escape in the Toowoomba hinterland, alongside our Joeys and Cubs — with some of our older Scouts looking after the younger kids along the way.
Mt Barney Intro Overnight Bushwalk
Seven of our Scouts and two adults tackled an intro to overnight bushwalking in Mt Barney National Park — walking to Cronan Creek Falls, camping the night at the remote Forestry Campsite, and detouring past Yellowpinch Lookout on the way back. A first taste of carrying camp on their backs for all seven.
Mt Mitchell Bushwalk
Our Scouts climbed Mt Mitchell/Cooyinnirra in Main Range National Park near Cunningham's Gap — the first mountain bushwalk for many of them, and everyone agreed the view was worth the effort.
Karingal First Camp for New Scouts
Our Scout section (ages 11 to 15) narrowly dodged the rain at Karingal Scout Campsite this weekend — plenty of fun and learning, with at least 10 Scouts on their very first camp.
Stradbroke Island End-of-Year Trip
Our Scout section finished 2020 on Stradbroke Island — sun, surf, and sand, with a few Scouts swimming in the surf for the very first time and plenty of first visits to Straddie among both Scouts and leaders.
Mt Mitchell / Cooyinnirra Day Hike
Our Scouts tackled the challenging ascent of Mt Mitchell/Cooyinnirra in the Scenic Rim for a day hike that tested fitness and navigation — sweeping views as the reward at the top.
Emily's Cronan Creek Overnight Hike
Our senior Scouts joined Emily for an overnight hike in the Mt Barney National Park region, camping at Cronan Creek in one of South-East Queensland's most rugged and beautiful wilderness areas.
