Highlights

GOMA & Queensland Museum Visit

We kicked off the new year with a cultural visit to the Gallery of Modern Art and the Queensland Museum — organised by the unit council as an example of Scouts planning their own programme.

Patrol Overnight: Daisy Hill to Karingal

All three of our patrols independently navigated the overnight bushwalk from Daisy Hill to Karingal — a real test of self-sufficiency, each group managing their own route, campsite, and cooking.

Sam's Sunshine Coast Great Walk AJ

Sam led a six-Scout patrol on a 3-day, 2-night Adventurous Journey along the first stages of the Sunshine Coast Great Walk — the centrepiece of his path toward the Australian Scout Award.

ANZAC Day Parade at Springwood

Our Scouts turned out to march in the ANZAC Day parade at Springwood, representing Scouting in the community commemorations — a proud tradition for the troop.

GC Aqua Park Breakup

This year's breakup at Gold Coast Aqua Park was fully planned and led by our unit council — transport, programme, all of it — a genuinely Scout-led celebration.

Wynnum Foreshore Bike Ride

Wynnum Foreshore Bike Ride

Our Scouts rode 18km along the Wynnum-Manly-Lota foreshore, fully planned and led by one of our youth Patrol Leaders — who even managed to land a sunny winter's day between all the rain. The review afterwards was a big thumbs up, with everyone asking for another one, longer, and near a playground next time.

Underwood Group Camp at Burleigh Heads

Underwood Group Camp at Burleigh Heads

25 of our Scouts and Cubs headed to Burleigh Heads for group camp — a rare sunny weekend of headland walks, surf swims, and a beach olympics chariot race, with leaders catapulting things at the racers for good measure. Surfers Paradise even put on a fireworks display for us.

Sunshine Coast Hinterland Walk

Sunshine Coast Hinterland Walk

Five Scouts, 33km, 70kg of gear, and over 100 leeches — a patrol walked most of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk this weekend, fully planned and led by one of our own working towards his Australian Scout Award.

Daisy Hill Overnight Hike

Daisy Hill Overnight Hike

Our Scouts carried their house on their backs for an overnight hike through Daisy Hill Forest and Venman Bushland National Park, camping at Karingal Scout Campsite — plenty of practice getting lost, and a hard lesson that pancakes are tough to cook on a hike stove.

Looking Back at 2021's Scout Adventures

Looking Back at 2021's Scout Adventures

Adventures galore for our Scout section in 2021 — we surfed, we walked, we camped, we canoed. Highlights included the view from the top of Mt Mitchell, riding out a storm under shelter at Karingal, and getting lost (then finding ourselves again) in Karawatha Forest.

Rocky Creek Camp

A weekend camp at Rocky Creek in the Glasshouse Mountains gave our Scouts a taste of adventure cooking despite the rain — three-course meals on camp stoves proved we eat well even when it's wet.

Karingal Unit Camp

Our Term 4 unit camp at Karingal was Scout-style fun through and through — a slip'n'slide, orienteering, and a pioneering swing to reward a big year's work.

Emily's Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk

Emily led a patrol on a 3-day, 28km Adventurous Journey along the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk, passing lookouts and waterfalls — the final chapter of her path to the Australian Scout Award.
