2023 Scout Highlights
Highlights
Nighthawk — Best Section in Logan
Twelve of our Scouts competed at Nighthawk, a major overnight challenge event, and took out best section in the Logan district — a genuinely outstanding result.
Logan District Scout Camp
We had our largest ever turnout at Logan District Camp — won the gadgets and construction award with a pulley-system gateway, and placed 2nd and 3rd in the wide game. Best district camp showing yet.
Runcorn Pool Night
A night at Runcorn Pool let our Scouts tick off multiple OAS Aquatics badge requirements — swimming skills and water confidence in a lively, competitive evening.
Karawatha Forest Navigation Exercise
Our Scouts paired up with the Venturers in joint patrols for a rogaine-style navigation event at this year's Karawatha Forest exercise, while the Cubs and Joeys ran their own courses.
End of Year Breakup at GC Aqua Park
Our Scout section had its end-of-year breakup at GC Aqua Park Southport, inviting along the Venturers and some senior Cubs for two sessions at the park. The whole day was planned by three of our Milestone 2 Scouts — train and tram journey, project patrols, and even the ice creams sorted.
Australian Scout Award — Emily & Sam
BRAVO to Emily and Sam, both new Australian Scout Award recipients at Underwood this year — among five youth across the group picking up peak awards, with achievements ranging from neighbourhood clean-ups and charity fundraising to leading adventurous journeys in Karawatha and Daisy Hill Forest.
Karingal Amazing Race Group Camp
Our Scouts joined nearly 40 Joeys, Cubs, Scouts and Venturers racing around Karingal for group camp's Amazing Race — knots, soccer, food challenges, navigation, and the zipline among the bases.
Mt Ngungun Climbing Day
On the third attempt, our Scouts finally made it to the summit of Mt Ngungun in the Glass House Mountains — a well-earned climb with panoramic views and a great story of persistence.
Logan River Paddle
A Scout leader from Browns Plains took our Scouts for a flat-water paddle on the Logan River — a relaxed introduction to on-water skills.
