Night Rides on the V1 Veloway
Two Wednesday-night group rides along the V1 Veloway — Brisbane's dedicated cycling highway — gave our Scouts a fast-paced, sociable evening out close to home.
Karingal Paddling Day
Six of our Scouts took advantage of a paddling day at Karingal, building on-water confidence as part of our growing paddling programme.
Brownsea Pizza & Paddle Night
The whole unit tried night paddling at Brownsea for a pizza and paddle evening — on-water adventure and a campfire meal, one of our most fun-filled social nights of the year.
District Camp — 3 Patrols, Scout Spirit Awards
All three of our patrols camped and competed separately at district camp this year — winning the pioneering award, placing 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the Amazing Race, and picking up two Scout Spirit awards.
Lucy's North Stradbroke Island AJ
Lucy led a 3-day walk on North Stradbroke Island over the Easter holidays for her Adventurous Journey — a beautiful coastal trek that brought her within reach of her Australian Scout Award.
Pioneering Mini-Course
With new Trained Participant qualifications in place, we ran a pioneering mini-course — nine Scouts picked up their Stage 4 Pioneering OAS badge, most now within striking distance of Stage 5.
Karingal Campfire Cooking Weekend
Our Scouts showed off their campfire cooking at Karingal Scout Campsite — a baking competition for morning tea with chocolate cake, scones, brownies, and apple coffee cake good enough to sell at a café. Add in three-course meals, a swim in the dam, a photo scavenger hunt, and sneaking past the guards in the night game, and that's a pretty good weekend.
Barney Gorge Junction Hike
Our Scouts headed out past the Lower Portals to Barney Gorge Junction campsite in Mt Barney National Park — a tough walk with spectacular views and a nice cool creek to play in. We learnt about safe river crossings, and first time on a Grade 5 track for many meant the steep climb with full packs was a real test — but they persevered.
Daves Creek Circuit Hike
Our Scout section headed to Binna Burra to walk the Daves Creek Circuit — perfect weather after a week of rain, amazing views over the Numinbah Valley, a visit to Nagarigoon Falls, and even a koala posing for photos. The Scouts showed off the fitness they'd built up at Knight Moves and Tyakunda Trailblazer, easily outpacing the adults.
Knight Moves Debut
Our Scouts attended Knight Moves for the first time — navigating through the bush in the middle of the night with stops to practice their Kninja skills at the bases. Particularly proud of our Gecko patrol, who picked up an equal 4th place.
The Amazing Race: Karingal
Our Scouts took part in The Amazing Race: Karingal, our district camp for 2024 — three days of navigating around Karingal, three-course meals cooked for the leaders, and three nights surviving without adult supervision. We picked up two Scout Spirit awards, placed 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the race itself, and had our construction efforts recognised with the Pioneering award.
Daisy Hill to Karingal Hike — Ambush, Archery & Paddling
Our Scouts walked between 10 and 16km from the Daisy Hill area to the top of Mt Cotton and in to Karingal Scout Campsite — some carrying their full load of tents, sleeping gear and food, others taking a lighter option with the leaders' car. The Venturers had an ambush waiting for them at camp, then joined for Sunday archery with Dingo from Marsden Scout Group and some paddling on the dam.
